Haringey Forum for Older People
1. The purpose of the Forum is to:
1.1 Ensure that the widely held concerns among Older People are
put and kept before the appropriate authorities.
1.2 Promote and involve itself with policies that shall benefit older
people, and enable them to maintain their individual dignity and their worth in society.
1.3 Positively combat age discrimination.
1.4 Be totally inclusive of Older People irrespective of gender,
disability, ethnic origin, marital status, political alliance, religious
belief or sexual orientation.
2. Membership
2.1. Membership is conferred on any eligible individual or organisation by registering with the Forum or by attending any meeting of the Forum.
2.2. Membership shall be open to all organisations and individuals, who support the aims and objectives of the Forum.
2.3 There are two categories of membership organisational membership and individual membership.
3. Executive Committee
3.1 The Executive Committee shall consist of representatives of
local Older People organisations and of individual members.
A maximum of 15 members with a minimum of 10 representing
organisations and no more than one member from any one
organisation .
3.2 The Executive Committee shall appoint from their peers the
Chair, Vice-Chair, Treasurer (if appropriate) and Secretary.
The Chair shall not hold office for more than 2 consecutive years.
3.3 The Executive may fill casual vacancies by co-option.
4. Frequency of meetings
4.1 Open meetings shall be held quarterly one of which shall be the AGM.
4.2 The Executive Committee shall meet 9 times a year. Any member
who fails to attend three consecutive meetings without good
reason, shall cease to be part of the group and shall be replaced.
The Forum at its AGM shall:
5.1 The Annual General Meeting shall be publicly advertised at least 21 days in advance.
5.2. Nomination papers must go out 21 days before the meeting and be received no later than 7 days prior to the meeting. Separate nomination papers will be send out for the different categories of membership.
5.3 The meeting shall receive and adopt the Annual Report and the financial report shall be presented.
5.4 The meeting shall elect the Executive Committee for the following year from nominations previously received. First the meeting will elect 10 representatives from organisations and then 5 individual members to the Executive Committee.
5.5. Each individual member attending the Annual General Meeting, who registers on entry shall be entitled to vote.
6. Alterations to the Terms of Reference
6.1 Any proposal to alter these Terms of Reference must be received
in writing by the Secretary not less than 28 days before the
meeting at which it is first to be considered.
6.2 Any alteration shall require the approval of two thirds of the
membership present and voting at a general meeting.
7 Finance
The income and property of the Forum shall be used solely to promote its objectives and shall not be given to member organizations or individuals otherwise than for proper and reasonable expenses incurred for such promotion.
8 Dissolution
A motion to dissolve the Forum shall be debated at a Special General Meeting of which not fewer than twenty-one days notice has been given to all members. To be passed the motion shall require a two thirds majority of the member organizations present and voting by roll call. Any assets remaining after discharge of the Forum’s liabilities shall be divided among such of its member organisations as have similar objects and similar restrictions on the distribution of income and assets, in proportion to their respective individual memberships, or failing any such member organisations, then to any other similar organisations as the meeting shall decide.
